Question and Answer is an incredibly powerful way to organize information. I know of many companies going after this space. Two of the little guys with some very interesting feature sets are Quora and Youmoot. The other thing to note about this post is that it is a very interesting way to introduce an idea: as a mockup, with explanation embedded in the mockup itself. |

Some of Melissa Ho’s observations from the field. Summary: People have high interest in technology and willingness to invest scarce capital, but most lack basic skills. General-purpose computing is more useful than kiosk-style installations. People do incredibly labor-intensive things to route around technology they do not trust. |

Here’s a good response piece to the whole Demand Media phenomenon: http://www.buzzmachine.com/2009/12/14/content-farms-v-curating-farmers/ One point is that search engines and the gaming thereof is likely to decrease in profitability as a) the algorithms get better and b) human networks are used to filter the content more actively. It’s an arms race, and hopefully smart people getting rich will swing content back to higher quality soon. |
