MoviePainter is a quick Processing app I wrote last weekend. It gives you a little window to paint using… you guessed it: movies. Basically, a movie is played and whenever you click and drag with the mouse, those frames of the movie are laid down onto the canvas, like a continuously-animated well of ink. This is somewhat like the painting programs that are out there, but in this case the “brush” is the combination of a movie file and an opacity mask.
I’ve recorded a screencast to show you how it works and what it does.
To celebrate my two-year anniversary at Instructables, Eric W., Noah, Rachel, and I went to iFly to go indoor skydiving. Two vids are below. The lighting is terrible, but you get the idea. I go second in each video. At the end of the second vid, you can also see the instructor showing off what someone can do after a few hundred hours of experience.
I picked up the basics after about thirty seconds, stabilizing myself and even following the instructor around a bit. You’ll see him communicating with me via hand signals a couple times, though, telling me to make smaller, more controlled motions. Noah picked it up even faster.
Here’s something that’s been all over the web: Making a free font based on your handwriting! Having gone through the short process of printing out the template, filling it out with my own handwriting, scanning it in, and uploading, I now present to you a brand new typeface: NaguScript.
Here’s a code snippet using my own handwriting, rendered in TextMate:
2.009 Product Engineering Processes - MIT's undergraduate competition for reuse, recycling, and development yielded some interesting entries, including a solar-powered bottle sorter, shea nut grinder, and insulation panels made from PET bottles. (posted by nagutron on 2008-01-03T19:19:10Z))
NodeBox | Home - Generate 2D visuals using Python. Beautiful stuff. Check out the Andren illuminated scripts and Evolution. From Watson. (posted by nagutron on 2007-12-11T06:59:50Z))
Ponoko - Ponoko is an interesting site: Rapid fabrication, user-contributed. Kind of like a CafePress for furniture and toys. This links to a nice-looking side table. (posted by nagutron on 2007-11-29T02:12:05Z))
