I bought a new camera for my trip, and I’ve been pretty happy with it. I’m ashamed to say that I bought it for its retrofabulous styling, but it turns out that it can take some decent pictures, too, with reasonable preprogrammed modes and full manual control when I want to play with it. I’m including a range of sample photos, below.
Prosper, the director of the Goma Student Fund’s Mugunga school:
Rocks and algae, where the house property meets the lake:
Mosquito net in my room:
Expat friends at a party, last night. Photo taken on auto, under fluorescents:
Masks at the nearby woodcarving studio:
Kids at the Addis Ababa airport:

How did you get to be surrounded by so many cuties? Where are they from? and what are they doing in Congo?
YOu will have a chance to compare the frustration of working in Africa with that in Vietnam a few years ago. Hope it won’t be too bad. Love, Mom

That one photo was just the HEAL Africa people, Mom. The older gentlemen is the President on the US side of the organization. As for the women, a couple are doctors or nurses, a couple are medical students, and others are teachers or researchers. They’re from all over the world: the UK, Austria, Australia…
And yes, they’re cute. The expat community here is male-dominated (lots of pilots, for example) so the rest of the guys are all pretty jealous of the fact that I’m the only young guy at the HEAL Africa house
